On June 10, 1912, the 6 members of the Moore family and two of their daughters’ friends from the Stillinger family were brutally murdered with an axe. Sadly, because of the interest in this crime in the small town of Villisca, Iowa; the crime scene was so contaminated with people walking through it that evidence was sparce to point to the killer or killers. At one point, the National Guard from the Villisca Armory had to go secure the scene to remove people. While the facts of the savage murders are simple and not disputed, the list of suscepts and theories seems limitless. Some of the suspects include a travelling reverend, a state senator, and even Jack the Ripper??. Though some were tried, none have been convicted and the crime remains unsolved to this day.
Join Tom and Ben as they dive into the facts and theories of the Villisca Axe Murders.
Another fun fact, the house is still standing and they have tours and overnight stays available. Website is villiscaiowa.com
