Point Pleasant, West Virginia – In 1966 and 67, the town had multiple sightings of a man estimated to be 6-7 foot tall with wings that spanned 10 feet and glowing red eyes.  The local newspaper ran the story, capitalizing on the Batman TV show, calling the creature “Mothman”.  Thus, the legend of Mothman was born.  The sightings seemed to increase in frequency until December 15, 1967.  On this date, the Silver Bridge, that connects Point Pleasant and Gallipolis, Ohio, collapsed killing 46 people.  After this date, no other sightings of Mothman were reported in the area.  Author John Keel in his novel, “The Mothman Prophecies” connected the Mothman to the Sliver Bridge collapse.  The town now celebrates the legacy of Mothman with a yearly festival.  What was the Mothman?  A bird?  A UFO? A prank?

Join Tom & Ben as they discuss the case of the Mothman on this episode.
